Summer Term 1

Welcome back to our summer term! Our topic over the next 5 weeks weeks is called Ticket to Ride! We will be exploring different modes of transport from buses, trains, rocket ships, boats and planes. We will be thinking about 'how do I get there?' 'Where in the world have you been?' We will be sharing books including The Naughty Bus, Emily Jane's Aeroplane, The Way Back Home, The 100 Decker Bus and many more. We will be exploring the post office and sharing The Jolly Postman and writing letters to some of the characters.

We will be having a Space Day where some of the activities will be; making passports, navigating our way to the moon, designing a space helmet, guiding a friend through a 'space' obstacle course, wearing space gloves to solve a puzzle and tasting some space food!

We will also be preparing to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! We will be exploring the queen's journey by looking at the past and present by sharing the book 'There Once is a Queen' by Michael Morpurgo. We will be creating our own time line of the queen as well as finding out about Buckingham Palace, London, the queen's own guards and designing a new crown for the queen!

We will be continuing to develop our overall body strength, balance, coordination and agility through use of outdoor play equipment continuously available as well as during focused PE times. We will be practising for our Sports Day later in the summer.

Within our phonics we will be working on phase 3 with Little Wandle and focusing on longer words, words with two or more digraphs, word endings 'ing' and compound words.

In our maths learning we will be continuing to practise and consolidate key skills; subitising, composition, counting, sorting and matching and comparing and ordering. We will be continuing to use the NCETM Maths Mastery Programme to support our maths  development as well as support from the TEEMUP Study.
